Introduction: My College Journey

Hello all, my name is Laura. I have already completed my AST degree in Business Administration at Los Medanos College, but I am taking this class because I need it for a four-year college. College has been rough for me. I have taken time off and I did not complete it as fast as I would like to, but here I am again taking another class at Los Medanos College. My favorite class that I have taken at Los Medanos College was Music-15 which is Basic Music. I really enjoyed that class because I learned a lot about the notes in music. The teacher I had for that class was very nice as well. It was just an overall easy and fun class, that I learned a lot from. I would have to say that my biggest accomplishment was to attain my AST degree in Business Administration, here at Los Medanos College. It took me a while, but I kept pushing through. I am really into 90's rap music, but I listen to all kinds of music. I think that 90's rap music has a lot more substance than rap music of today. It seems like they all talk about money and girls in rap music today. I like to listen to music with deeper lyrics. I can also relate to some of the old school rap songs.
If my best friend described me, I would think she would say that I am, first of all picky. She would say that I like rap music. That I like In N Out Burger. She would say that I am loyal. She would say that I am a good student. She would say that I like to watch the show Intervention. That I am misunderstood and can be sensitive at times. That I like the outdoors.

  1. Heey, Laura! I enjoyed reading your introduction! I know it just a glimpse, but you seem such I nice person!
I'm taking Music-15 this semester. It's interesting that you've liked it because I'm finding it kinda hard. It's so hard listening to my professor playing the notes and then going to the front of the board and writing down what he played. I hope I won't fail in his exams...
Additionally, your introduction made me realize that we have some things in common! I also love going to In-n-out and I'm a loyal friend. I'm so picky, too! Especially, when related to food, oh my gosh...

    1. Hi Natalia, thanks for the reply. I got lucky when I took Music-15, my instructor was new and a very laid back and nice teacher. I think she did not force each one of us to go in front of the class; I think she just asked for volunteers who were comfortable to go up front, but I'm not one hundred percent sure since it has been a while since I have taken that class. I am sure you will do fine on the exams, just study as much as you can.

  2. Hey there, Laura!

Thank you for visiting my profile! I love that you're resilient and persistent with your studies even after getting your AST in Business Administration. I might take Music-15 next year, can you recommend me the professor you took?
By 90's rap, you mean Eminem era, right? Yes, I agree, rap songs before around 2004 are waaaaay better. Well, I'm into Filipino and Japanese rock, though, but I did hear rap songs before because my older brothers like them.

As for your question to me, I took pre-law in the Philippines so college was pretty tough there. But the good thing is that I had the same classmates for 3 years because we have to follow the same curriculum. Unlike here, you can take any courses, even if it's not related to your major. In the Philippines, you have to enroll in a double major to take classes outside your curriculum.

I was only in Southern California for about 8 months and I didn't have the luxury to travel around the South, though. I like the beach. Although I can't swim, I feel relaxed just by listening to the crashing waves. I like living here in East Bay because the transportation is easier. I live near a BART station, so if I want to go to SF, I can do so without driving.

    Nice meeting you,
    Regina

    1. Hi Regina, the teacher I took for Music-15 was at LMC only for the semester I took her, which was in 2014 I believe. Unfortunately, she moved out of California. The 90's music I like was more like Snoop Dogg, Biggie, etc. I think it is better that in the Philippines you take all courses that a related to your major. It is too bad it is not that way here.

  3. Hello Regina,

that is awesome that you already have a degree in business. That is also awesome that you are planning on going to a 4 year college. At least this is your last class you need, so you are almost there. I also love in n out burger, and some old school rap. Keep up the good work and you will be at a 4 year before you know it.

  5. Hi Laura!!
Congratulations on your degree and working towards your requirements so you can transfer to a four year college. College has taken long time for me too, I am returning after 11 years, this is my first semester back. I have recently started listening to 1990's music again and really enjoy it. I agree it had more meaning. I also enjoy camping with my family. Good luck this semester.
