Feedback can be very helpful. We are not all good at the same thing and getting feedback from others can help us. It is always great to get second, third or even more opinions. Looking back at my time in college I have dealt with a lot of feedback, especially in my English classes. Usually I would receive feedback on the essays I had to write. One of the most productive feedback that I can think of was when I was taking what I think was College Composition English. I was writing a lot of run-ons on sentences in my essays so when I got my graded essay back, I was able to make adjustments and learn from my mistakes. A negative feedback that I received I believe was also on an essay I had to write for an English class. That time I was very discouraged because I felt my essay made sense. According to the tutor who edited it said most of it did not make sense. So, basically, she wanted me to start from scratch on that essay. I was very discouraged. I think that time I got opinions from another two tutors and their feedback was not as bad. I followed my gut because I felt like my essay did make sense for the most part. I either received an A or a B on that essay. So, sometimes people do not give you the best feedback, so you must also learn to trust your own opinion.
In other personal areas of my life feedback has taught me to be more open minded. Feedback has taught me to not dive in head first into a situation if I am not sure. It has taught me to not force things and if I cannot accept them then I need to get out if that situation if I can. It has taught me to not only focus on the present but to think about all the possible scenarios that can happen in the future.
Hi, Laura
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful that you don't get enraged by the negative comments you receive on your paper. Feeling upset is only natural, but instead of getting mad, you learned from them. I think all feedback is integral to correcting our mistakes. I highly adore it that you went and asked for help to the tutors. You're right about getting more feedback than focusing on the feedback you got on your paper. Thank you, I am reluctant on seeking feedback, but you opened my mind on it.
Cheers,
Regina
